Then I was reading in Brene Brown's Rising Strong and I came across this: "We need more people who are willing to demonstrate what it looks like to risk and endure failure, disappointment, and regret -- people willing to feel their own hurt instead of working it out on other people, people willing to own their stories, live their values and keep showing up."
So to those of you who just found us or those of you who've been wondering all along, this is what Honestly Vulnerable is all about. It is about us agreeing with the amazing Ms. Brown to the point of wanting to become that person who is willing to risk showing the wholeness of ourselves. It is about being willing to own our stories -- and this little piece of the bloggersphere is our platform where we can "keep showing up." Even after a hard day, even after a bombed job interview, even after the pain and joys of parenting. We come here to show our skinned knees or gaping wounds and then talk through the process' that helped us heal them and learn from them.
In my head I've named it Social Media Realism . A definition of realism is, "the quality or fact of representing a person, thing, or situation accurately or in a way that is true to life." That is what we are striving to do here : paint the details of life without glossing over the messy bits. We talk about a low (or two) and then a high and then a low and then a crazy situation that is a low and a high. We talk about it ALL to show that it ALL is part of the cycle of this beautiful, wonderful, hard, crazy, amazing thing called life.
There we are, a year and a half latter I have a succinct answer: I am a realism blogger. And we will be here blogging about real life in as open, honest and vulnerable a way as we can. And we'd love for you to join us in whatever way you would like: please comment, re-post, or message me on Instagram (@sarahreneepearson) if you want to join in the social media realism fun. I am starting the hashtag, #socialmediarealism as a way to connect with all you amazing people. Can't wait to see pieces of your real and wonderful lives.
love,
Sarah
